What is AEP ?

AEP or Applied Equine Podiatry is a ground breaking new science developed by K C La Pierre, co-founder of the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry, a farrier with more than 20 years experience and a true expert on the equine foot. The theories and methods that he has developed in the practice of shoeless hoof care are revolutionary and can be found nowhere else

 

In his own words ‘AEP is the conscientious study of the equine foot, always striving to expose it to proper environmental stimuli, making every effort to promote proper structure and function in order to achieve high performance. It is accepting the facts that the horse has the innate ability to heal itself and that man’s interference has caused imbalance and broken the golden rule of “do no harm’’

AEP is about finding practical ways to give your horse the best foot possible without the need for a shoe. Our work is based on the premise that by developing correct structure in the foot we allow the foot to function properly and thus increase performance. Our aim is to integrate the science and practice of AEP into a more natural and inclusive approach to equine husbandry.

 

Each Student of the International Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry or IAEP undergoes rigorous practical and theoretical training and examination before being granted the Diploma in Applied Equine Podiatry. This curriculum, combined with a process of Continued Professional Development makes the DAEP one of the most knowledgeable specialists in their field
